Co-Program Director/Assistant Professor of Theatre – Acting/Voice. John Terry is a professional actor, director, choreographer, and educator. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Utah Tech’s Theatre Program. He leads the performance-based classes. John also taught at Shepherd University in West Virginia, University of Georgia, and lectured at the University of Utah and Virginia Tech. John earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Great Basin College, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Utah, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia.
As a performer, choreographer, and director, John has more than fifteen years of experience. He works in markets such as Utah, Georgia, and New York. His work includes Off-Broadway with the Bedlam theatre company, regional work with Pioneer Theatre Company, and devising for the International Orlando Fringe Festival. On camera, he was recently seen in the feature films Cacuman, Permafrost, and Limbo.
John’s research is steeped in the areas of intimacy choreography, fight choreography, movement choreography, and blending actor training styles from Western pedagogies and the teachings of East Asian artists. On top of certifications achieved, he continues to train with entities such as Dueling Arts International, Theatrical Intimacy Education, and Knight-Thompson Speechworks. His professional work as a performer and director allows him to receive first-hand knowledge of the ways in which the entertainment industry is growing. John’s passion as an educator drives him to be a life-long learner and instill that thinking into his students. As artists and creators, we need to be constantly learning from others and growing as individuals.
