Department Chair/Associate Professor of Theatre – Lighting/Sound. Henry Echeverria is an Associate Professor of Theatre and Program Director of the Theatre Program at Utah Tech University, where he teaches technical theatre, design, and production while providing academic leadership for the program. A finalist for Utah Tech University’s Distinguished Service Award, he is recognized for his commitment to student success, collaborative leadership, and innovative theatre education.
With more than twenty years of professional experience, Henry brings extensive industry expertise and a passion for mentorship to the classroom. A Southern California native, he earned an MFA in Scenography (Theatre Design and Technology) from Cal Poly Humboldt and a BA in Theatre from California State University, Bakersfield.
Throughout his career, Henry has contributed to hundreds of live events and productions spanning theatre, themed entertainment, film, television, and commercial production. His professional credits include high-profile projects for Nintendo and Disney, as well as collaborations with Universal Studios, Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival, A Noise Within, and Charlottesville Opera. His areas of expertise include lighting and sound design, technical direction, scenic design, props, and production management.
Before joining Utah Tech, Henry served as an Adjunct Professor, Technical Director, and Designer at Averett University, Georgia College & State University, California State University, Bakersfield, and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
At Utah Tech, Henry is dedicated to providing students with a rigorous, hands-on education grounded in professional production practices. He is passionate about cultivating creativity, technical excellence, and collaborative leadership while preparing the next generation of theatre artists and technicians for successful careers in the entertainment industry.
He lives in St George, Utah with his wife, Amy, and three boys.
